Florals on trend -
our top picks

by

There is a brilliant scene in The Devil Wears Prada where the editorial team shares ideas for the next edition of fashion magazine, Runway. At the suggestion of a floral themed spread by one nervous staff member, editor Miranda Priestly turns on her. "Florals for Spring?" questions a dead-pan Meryl Streep? "Groundbreaking."

The Devil Wears Prada Florals for Spring

Despite Miranda’s protests, florals are neither dull nor just for spring. Injecting florals into your Autumn wardrobe – whether it’s a statement flower or head-to-toe delicate prints – is a great way to hold on to the last moments of Summer.

Here are the pieces you need in your life:

1. Millie Mackintosh maxi dress - £350

If you’re still riding the wedding season wave, then no look no further than this floaty dream from Millie Mackintosh. Subtle ruffles and frills are a great way to try out the trend. And don’t fear a thigh split, a dress like this with lots of fabric is a less daring way to go.

2. Flowing jacket with Grommets - £69.99

I love soft tailoring and suited and booted is one of my favourite looks as we creep into August. Style these feminine florals as Zara have, or strip back the look and pair with a lace cami and pair of heels for a look that will take you from board meeting to the bar.

3. Floral print lace maxi dress – £30

Weather-dependent, maxi dresses can be a tricky one to get right this time of year. For me, it’s all about layering and dressing up or down with the right accessories. I love a beaten-up pair of Converse and a denim jacket for a day round the shops, or some strappy heels and a top knot for a night out. If you’re not a floral person by nature, then this piece from New Look can be a great way to approach the trend without going all-out.

4. Floral embroidered silk dress - £2,420

As you might be able to tell, I’m a huge fan of Gucci and think they’ve completely owned the trend this summer. This isn’t one for the wallflowers but the mix of textures – wool, silk, embroidery – are ideal for any season, just add a pair of black tights… or not.

1. Wolf & Badger - £150

There is something so decadent about a silk scarf. This is a real investment piece but one that you will wear forever. Try wrapping round the handles of your handbag to mix it up.

2. Floral embroidered flat mule - £9.99

Mules took over the runway this year, with everyone from Primark to M&S getting in on the action. I love the industrial buckle on these from Ego, now in the sale for only £9.99!

3. Floral embroidered clutch bag - £25

Topshop’s really focused in on textures this summer, including this great clutch which brings together soft leather with embroidery. Great if you’re looking to go floral but not ‘girly’!
